Pongal Celebrations 2014 | Layam

Pongal, which is celebrated widely in India, marks the start of sun’s six-month long journey northwards (Uttarayana). This observance occurs annually around January 14 each year. Hindus consider the date as auspicious and mark this as the beginning of sun’s movement towards the zodiac Capricorn (Makarm Rashi).
Layam celebrated this Festival, in traditional and the funfilled way. The celebrations for Pongal Kondatam 2014 started withthe Tamil Thaai Vazhthu. Dr S Annadurai, Principal and Dr L Sivakumar, Vice Pricipal, Sri Krishna College of Engineering & Technology, formally inaugurated the celebrations by lighting the kuthuvilaku. The celebrations gained its excitement with the start of College Band Performance, followed by the folk dances by the Krishnites. The events were followed by the distribution of sweet Pongal to all. The afternoon sessions covered various events for faculty and students of the college, including Ooriyadi, Tug of War, Anthakshari, Cookery Competition, Pongal Kolam Competition and various games. All the faculty and students participated in all the events and enjoyed the Pongal Kondatam to their fullest. Dr S Annadurai, Principal, Sri Krishna College of Engineering & Technology, wished all this faculty and students a very happy and prosperous Pongal 2014.
